Opening Day: Spring Training

Yesterday the Boston Red Sox played their first spring training game in the Grapefruit League down in Fort Myers, Florida. The Red Sox opened spring training against the New York Mets. Unfortunately, the Sox did fall to the Mets 3-2.

This first game loss in spring training really has no meaning and we shouldn’t be looking too far into it. For fans this game is what everybody has been waiting for. It’s not opening day however this game means that baseball is right around the corner. This is very exciting for most fans.

Against the Mets the Red Sox really didn’t do too much on the offensive side. But like I said this is only the first game, most of the starters didn’t even play. Among the players that sat out today were Dustin Pedroia, Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Mitch Mooreland, and Pablo Sandoval.

It will be very exciting to see as spring training moves forward how this team looks going into the season. Obviously everybody is waiting to see how the big three of Chris Sale, David Price, and Rick Porcello look this offseason, but we should remember that we won’t see much of these guys in spring training. But it is super exciting that spring training games are upon us and the regular season is right around the corner.
